iMovie: The student(s) will create a 3-7 minute movie that will focus on 2-3 aspects or a in depth theme of one of the cultures we have been studying. The video can be a series of photos along with facts narrated by the student either in class or though voice over. One can also create a documentary style video where the video features clips and songs from the culture being studied. Another type of video that has been created in the past is that of a newscast where students are reporting on the culture they are studying. Do not feel limited by the examples I have given you. As long as the video meets time and information requirements you can express yourself in many forms. Be sure that if you choose to add music or video it does fit the theme of your video. Please see the video below for a good example of a simple iMovie project. I would add voice over narration to this video.
Diorama: The student(s) will create a 3D model that focuses on a specific aspect or theme of one of the cultures we have been studying. This project is very much an artistic endeavor so points will be awarded for creativity and neatness. Your ability to capture the information and display that information in model from is important. This model should also include a typed description so that the diorama can stand on its own without a presentation. Please see examples of past student work below.
Song: The student(s) will create a 2-5 minute song that will focus on a specific aspect or theme of one of the cultures we have been studying. The song should be an original work you create. While I have had students write a song to the tune of a current pop song; I would prefer that you create the music on your own. Using samples or loops is completely acceptable. Songs can take many forms, for instance; spoken word can also be a format you choose. Please listen to an example of past student work below.
Dramatic Performance: The student(s) will create a 2-5 minute dramatic performance or skit that focuses on the people that we have been studying. This performance should represent the people of this time period in first person. Student(s) should focus on an aspect of a person’s life and create a monologue or dialogue that captures that moment in time. This performance should also include some type of costume. While the costume need not be elaborate; it should in some way transform the individual(s) into the people/person of that time period. Please see a compilation of examples of past student work below.
